Bridgeport police said the three people shot around 8 p.m., Saturday, March 30 were Dennis Moye, 48, son of Councilwoman Denese Taylor-Moye (D-131st); Ronnie Pernell, 40, and Christopher Nichols, 38, according to Rowena White, spokeswoman for the city.

"It appears that a group of people had gathered in the parking lot after the funeral services for Nichols’ mother when shots were fired at the group from the direction of South Ave," said White. "Units secured a crime scene with multiple shell casings from at least two different firearms."

An empty holster and cellphone were found on the ground near a parked vehicle and what appeared to be blood, she added.

The shooting took place at Marina Village, where a funeral and reception was being held for Vera Nichols, a much-beloved community member known for helping others and working to make the city a better place to live. She worked for years at a local daycare center and was active in the church and was an officer of the Marina Village Board.

The three victims shot, were transported in private vehicles to local emergency rooms.

White said Moye was shot in the right shin; Pernell in the back (non-life-threatening), and Nichols was shot in the right knee.

The department responded to both hospitals and the crime scene. All vehicles used for transporting the victims have been secured for processing, she added.

Taylor-Moye broke said in a press conference Sunday morning, that she was "sad this happened in my city, in my community that I love so much."

Authorities are investigating the shooting.
